Westobou Crossing

Westobou Crossing is the only project in the Urban Area Master Plan that spans the Savannah River and includes both North Augusta and Augusta.

North Augusta
The City of North Augusta acquired acreage between the 5th Street Bridge and U.S. Route #1 and developed a new intersection for ease in traffic flow. The ribbon-cutting for this new interchange occurred on 11/16/2009. North Augusta continues to acquire land and new residential development is being planned for this area.

Augusta
The property on the Augusta side of the Savannah River and adjacent to the River will be part of an overall development strategy that spans the river and includes North Augusta. The river property between 5th & 6th Streets is a large part of this development area. A developers packet, proposing redevelopment on both sides of the Savannah River, is being worked on.

The Augusta property bordering the Savannah River on Reynolds Street between 5th Street and 6th Street has been remediated and is available for development. On this property is an old historic train depot that will be incorporated into any new development.

5th Street Bridge
On both sides of the Savannah River, there are major new roadways that have been built. Traffic patterns are being evaluated for possible 5th Street Bridge redevelopment. The 5th Street Bridge needs to be used to maximize economic development on both sides of the Savannah River.
